PHOENIX project implementation plan has five work packages (WP), following the general structure below:
WP1 – Project management
The main goal of this WP is to set up an effective management framework to ensure the proper level of coordination and cooperation among partners as well as to act as the interface between the Consortium and the EC, particularly: 1) To establish the project operation tools and supervise the implementation to ensure progress towards the project objectives, 2) To ensure that all actions are performed correctly and within the rules and regulations established by the EC, 3) To set up internal quality and risks management procedures, and 4) To administrate and distribute the EC funds in a timely fashion and keeping record of all allocations.
WP2 – Specification and simulations
To define the specifications and architecture of the BTO/VOx devices, board/system hardware and application use cases of the PHOENIX demonstrators, starting from use cases requirements to drive the design of the different material systems, structures and building blocks and PIC packaging.
WP3 – PIC fabrication and packaging
Development and fabricate the basic structures and building blocks required for the demonstrators. First the building blocks will be fabricated at chip level and tested before fabricating the PIC. Once the PIC is tested on-wafer and its performance validated . will be packaged at tested. This WP will also elaborate a roadmap for photonic-electronic integration and upscaling.
WP4 – Use cases
In this WP, firmware and software and control, biasing and driving electronics will be designed and fabricated to integrate them with the PIC from WP3. After the use cases demonstrators are set-up, technical evaluation will be carried out
The use case demonstrators will be realized and tested to verify and confirm the feasibility of the BTO platform for applications beyond optical communication. The WP will also benchmark the optical signal processing concepts developed for homomorphic encryption and neural network inference and training.
WP5 – Communication, dissemination, exploitation and clustering activities
Here the goal is to maximise the impact of the project by effectively communicating, disseminating, and exploiting its results towards the general public, scientific community, industry and relevant stakeholders in the value chain. To that end, 1) a communication and dissemination plan, 2) an stakeholders’ analysis and engagement plan, and 3) a market analysis and exploitation plan will be designed and implemented, according to FAIR principles regulated by the data management plan.
